Things to do in Philadelphia
Philadelphia Orchestra
The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts became the home for the Philly Orchestra in 2001; attending the concerts of the Philadelphia Orchestra has become one of the city's more cultural things to do. Starting in September and concluding in May, the orchestra plays out the season in one of the two performance areas. The Verizon Hall, which seats 2500 people, and the Perelman Theatre, seating 650 people, are acoustic dreams. This, now landmarked venue, was named after the honorable Sidney Kimmel, who donated the largest gift to the construction of the building. If you are a lover of the orchestra, this is a must, as far as experiences in Philadelphia go.
Wilma Theatre
Named after the Shakespearean fictional female character, this theatre shows you an art form that engages all audiences. Through the reflections of contemporary life, the theatre shows create and portray the adventures that many of the audience will encounter throughout their lifetimes. The intimate surroundings of the theatre, only seating 296 people, allows their shows to wisp you away into the world you are observing.
Ghost Tours of Philadelphia
If the sites and sounds of the orchestra and theatre are not enough to get your blood flowing, then we suggest you go on the famous Ghost Tours of Philadelphia. You will be introduced to the haunting tales of America's spookiest city. Walking along in only candlelight through Independence Park, you will have questions to ask, and maybe they will be answered. Is Ben Franklin still roaming the streets, what really goes on at Independence Hall and is Benedict Arnold finished with the Powel House?
Franklin Institute
If ghosts scare you, there is always an easier way to keep up with Ben Franklin, at the Franklin Institute. The institute consists of two centers: the Mandell Center and the Science Center. The Mandell Center offers the likes of Public Science Day, and until September 2003, Grossology, The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. In the Science Center, you can test out these following exhibits:
- The Train Factory
- KidScience
- The Sports Challenge
- The Changing Earth
- CyberZone
- The Weather Center
- B. Franklin National Memorial
- Aviation
