Italian Restaurants

Philadelphia has one of the oldest and largest Italian-American communities in the United States in South Philadelphia, which is home to the world famous Italian Market. Ralph's Italian Restaurant
This restaurant was established in 1900 and is still owned by the same family. It has gone through several decorative updates and structural additions. Dante and Luigi's Restaurant

La Famiglia
La Famiglia is like an elegant private dining room in Italy with paintings and family treasures displayed all around. The restaurant has an extensive wine cellar. Tre Scalini

Vetri
An intimate restaurant with seating for only 35 patrons, Vetri is for more of the expensive taste, considered the best Italian restaurant in the city. Top Seafood Restaurants

Because of its close location to the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay, the Philadelphia area has a large number of great seafood restaurants.

Striped Bass
The best seafood restaurant in Philadelphia with a four star rating from the Mobile Travel Guide. This restaurant is featured in the movie "The Sixth Sense." Fresh seafood is the specialty. This is one of those hidden gems among restaurants in the Philadelphia area. Philadelphia Fish & Company
This restaurant is within easy walking distance of Independence National Park and the waterfront. Sansom Street Oyster House
Referred to as "one of Philadelphia's best kept secrets,". For fresh fish every day, and especially for oyster lovers, this is the place to go for lunch or dinner. Although not known for its steakhouses, Philadelphia has a number of fine restaurants that serve excellent steaks. Several of these restaurants are as good as you're likely to find in cities such as Chicago, Kansas City or New York.

The Capital Grille
One of 15 locations nationwide, the Capital Grille was selected by Citysearch as Philly's best Steakhouse. Ruth's Chris Steak House
There are over 80 locations worldwide, and is frequently chosen as a favorite chain steak house. They are known for their aged, corn-fed USDA Prime beef, broiled in a trademark 1,800 degree oven and served on a plate heated to 500 degrees to ensure the steak stays "sizzling" hot. The Prime Rib
The Prime Rib is nicknamed "the civilized steakhouse." Morton's of Chicago
Morton's is known for their generous portions of USDA prime aged beef, as well as fresh fish, lobster, veal and chicken entrees. Morton's is famous for its signature tableside menu presentation where menu items are presented on a cart rolled to your table. Located at 1411 Walnut St., Philadelphia. Cheesesteak

What would a trip to Philadelphia be, without Cheesesteak. They were invented in South Philadelphia in the 1930's at Pat's Steaks, located in the heart of South Philadelphia, hence the addition of "Philly" to the name. They were originally topped with a pizza sauce, (now called a pizza steak). There are many different answers to where to find the best cheesesteak. The debate over whether Pat's or Geno's steaks are the best goes on every night. Both are located on Passyunk Avenue near Ninth Street in the heart of South Philly.

Geno's Steaks
Located at 9th and Passyunk, directly across from Pat's King of Steaks, Geno's was opened in 1966 and has been attracting crowds ever since.

Pat's King of Steaks
Located where 9th Street crosses Wharton & Passyunk Ave., Pat's is where the Philadelphia cheesesteak was invented in 1930 and has earned its name as King of Steaks.

Jim's Steaks
Located at 4th and South Street and at several suburban locations, Jim's is a worthy rival to Geno's and Pat's. Jim's Steaks has been in business for over 60 years, and is a favorite of many locals.

Leo's Steak Shop
Leo's is located at 1403 Chester Pike in nearby Folcroft, Delaware County. It is cheesesteak expert John Russ's choice for best cheesesteak in the Philadelphia area.
