The Eagles were founded in 1933. From 1933 until 1942 they remained the Philadelphia eagles, but in 1943 the team became the Philadelphia/Pittsburg Steagles. The Eagles merged with the Steagles for the year due to manpower shortage during the Second World War. The merger ended at the end of the season. Ever since 1944 the Eagles have remained an independant Philadelphia team. Four years later, in 1948, the Eagles won their first NFL championship, defeating the Chicago Cardinals, 7-0, in a blinding snow storm in Shibe Park.
